Pakistan’s Imran Khan to move into Ministers’ Enclave: Report

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, who is set to take oath as Pakistan’s next prime minister, is all set to move to a house in the Ministers’ Enclave as his private residence is vulnerable to threats, media reports indicate.

Earlier, there were talks to declare Khan’s Banigala house as his official residence. However, that option was ruled out after district administration officials said adequate security could not be provided.

According to reports, Khan has asked for a lowest category flat at the Minister’s Enclave, but as necessary protocol could not be implemented there Khan has agreed to opt for a house instead of flat.

Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as the single largest party in the National Assembly post the July 25 poll. But it is still short on numbers to form the government. The PTI is currently reaching out to smaller parties to form the next government.

In his victory speech, the 65-year-old said he wouldn’t use the Prime Minister’s House as his residence and that the fate of the property would be decided later.

Khan is set to take oath as the prime minister of Pakistan on August 11.

There is currently no standard procedure for the prime minister in-waiting, but protection around Khan has been mounted as he is likely to be the next prime minister. According to a The Daily Star report, an ambulance, fire-fighters and paramedics have been stationed outside the PTI chief’s home.

Police personnel on motorcycles will patrol around Khan’s house and foot patrols have been ordered outside his residence.

Khan was given VVIP protocol shortly after Khan’s victory in the recently-held general elections.
