Housefull 4 movie review: A perfect mixture of comedy and drama

After watching the trailer and the songs of Housefull 4, we didn’t have much expectation from the film. But well, this one has turned out to be quite good. Starring Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Kharbanda, Pooja Hedge, Rana Daggubati, Chunky Panday and Johnny Lever, Housefull 4 is a laugh riot with just the perfect dose of drama in it.

Harry, Max, and Roy (Akshay, Bobby, and Riteish) are three brothers having a barbershop in London. But thanks to Harry’s one silly mistake they have to pay a huge sum of money to a don. They decide to get married to three rich girls Kriti, Pooja and Neha (Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde, and Kriti Kharbanda). From London, they travel to Sitamgarh in India to have a destination wedding. But things don’t go as planned and then a lot of hilarious stuff takes place.

Sajid Nadiadwala (story) and Farhad Samji (dialogues) have done a fantastic job as writers. Dramedy (drama + comedy) is a genre not much explored in Bollywood. But Nadiadwala and Samji have come up with an impressive dramedy with Housefull 4.

The first half has very few funny scenes, but here the drama is at its best. The screenplay keeps you hooked to the screens. In the second half, the movie turns its ways towards being funny and then comes the climax which takes the movie to a totally another level. We can clearly say that in all the Housefull franchise films, the climax in Housefull 4 is the best one.

In a franchise, we expect that with every film, the makers take the movie to a higher level production-wise and in Housefull 4 that clearly happens. It has been mounted on a huge scale and it is visually delightful.

Coming to performances, Housefull 4 is a treat for Akshay Kumar fans. He has proved his mettle in comedy films earlier and once again in Housefull 4, the actor is simply outstanding. Watch out for him in the climax. Riteish Deshmukh is quite good and impresses us in his Bangdu Maharaj avatar. Booby Deol is fine in the film, but we loved his biceps. Kriti Sanon is damn good. Her comic timing has improved and in all the three actresses she is the best one. Kriti Kharbanda also leaves a mark with her performance and she looks damn pretty. Pooja Hegde is strictly average. Chunky Panday and Johnny Lever make us laugh whenever they come on the big screen. Rana Daggubati is perfect as Gama. Jamie Lever is wasted. Nawazuddin Siddiqui in his cameo is good.

One department where the movie could have been better is the music. While the background score given by Julius Packiam is excellent, the songs in the film don’t impress much. Apart from Chammo, no other tracks leave a mark.

Overall, Housefull 4 is an entertaining film with the perfect dose of drama and comedy in it. It surely deserves a watch.

India won the brief conflict with Pakistan but lost the propaganda war

Nitin Mehta

After the dastardly killing of 25 Hindus by terrorists in Pahalgam, India delivered a devastating blow to Pakistan. It sent the message that India will not tolerate terrorist attacks anymore. However, India seems to have lost the propaganda war. In any battle, propaganda plays a huge role.

There are two interpretations of how the brief conflict was suddenly brought to a close. The Indian interpretation is that the Pakistani commanders urged India to stop the conflict and India agreed. This in itself raises some crucial questions. If the enemy is urging you to stop, why would you? Certainly the great Chanakya's response would be to take full advantage of the enemy's weakness. Did India get any cast-iron guarantees that Pakistan will stop state-sponsored terrorist attacks? Did India ask for the immediate release of Sudhir Kulbushan Yadav who is in a Pakistani jail for nine years on false spying charges?
