Barun Sobti to write and star in a digital film

Known for such hit shows as Dill Mill Gayye and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Barun Sobti is one of the most popular faces on Indian television. The actor has been missing from the scene for quite some time now though. He was last seen in a Hindi film titled 22 Yards (2019) which did not click with the audience.

Sobti is currently working on some digital shows. He has also confirmed to write and star in an upcoming web movie which will be produced by Tanveer Bookwala. For the uninitiated, Sobti and Bookwala are already working together on the forthcoming web-show Asura on Voot.

“Barun is pretty much our in-house star. And if I have my way, he will be in everything we make. When he came to us with this idea, I was blown away. And I instantly commissioned the writing. Now we are looking to attach a female lead to this. It will be directed by a renowned advertising director for an international platform. This is a unique love story and an emotional thriller. We have not seen something like this. And I am sure it will be a sucker punch of a narrative,” says producer Tanveer Bookwala.

Confirming the development, Barun Sobti says, “Collaborating with Tanveer is always amazing. After TGIDF and Asura, this film is a unique love story. It’s an emotional thriller. When I came up with the idea, I could think of nobody better than Tanveer to vibe on the sensibilities of the script. This will be very new for my friends and fans.”

The project is expected to hit the shooting floor soon. The makers are yet to reveal the platform on which it will premiere. More details are awaited.
