Akshay Kumar donates ₹ 25 crore to coronavirus relief fund

Akshay Kumar, one of the most influential Bollywood stars in India, has come forward to lend his helping hand in Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fight against Coronavirus. The superstar has pledged to contribute a whopping amount of ₹ 25 crore to the Coronavirus relief fund.

Announcing the same on his Twitter handle, Kumar wrote, “This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute ₹ 25 crores from my savings to Narendra Modi Ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives. Jaan hai toh jahaan hai.”


This is the largest amount by any Indian celebrity so far to help fight Coronavirus and succour people in these trying times of the pandemic. Praising the superstar for his deed, Modi wrote on Twitter, “Great gesture, Akshay Kumar. Let’s keep donating for a healthier India.”

Showering praises on Kumar, his wife and actress Twinkle Khanna said that how much her husband makes her proud. “The man makes me proud. When I asked him if he was sure as it was such a massive amount and we needed to liquidate funds, he just said, ‘I had nothing when I started and now that I am in this position, how can I hold back from doing whatever I can for those who have nothing,’” she tweeted.

Earlier, superstar Hrithik Roshan also made a contribution of ₹ 20 lakh to the Government of Maharashtra to procure preventive masks and other requirements for the BMC workers and the street-level bureaucrats. Celebrated stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma has also donated ₹50 lakh.

In Tollywood, Baahubali actor Prabhas donated ₹ 4 crore, while Ram Charan made a contribution of ₹ 70 lakh. Popular Telugu superstar Allu Arjun announced the donation of ₹ 1.25 crore for the welfare of the people in states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Telangana in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
