Indoo Ki Jawani starring Kiara Advani in the titular role is all set to hit the big screens on 11th December 2020. The movie is directed by Abir Sengupta, and with Indoo Ki Jawani, he makes his Bollywood directorial debut.

We recently interacted with Abir and asked him if Kiara was the first choice for the film, to which he said, “Absolutely, she is almost like a dream come true cast for the film. When you write a film, you have a kind of face in your head. So, I used to tell my friends, I see someone like a Kiara Advani in this film, and then later it happened; everything just fell in place.”

After Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, Indoo Ki Jawani will be the second new Bollywood film that’s getting a theatrical release. When asked Abir if he feels any box-office pressure, the filmmaker said, “I don’t think I have any box-office pressure because I don’t think this is the right time to think about box-office. I don’t think even the actors would be having that pressure.”

“When I went to the theatre, I realised that they are taking proper safety measures. So, this is a transition period, people will start going to the theatres, they will start realising that we can go to the theatres it's quite safe. I think entertainment is also a major part of our lives,” he added.

Indoo Ki Jawani also stars Aditya Seal and Mallika Dua.

Highlights:

  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
