Shakeela: Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi shine in the trailer

Murtuza Iqbal

A few days ago, the makers of Shakeela had released the teaser of the film, and now, today, they have unveiled the trailer of the movie. It stars Richa Chadha in the lead role, and Pankaj Tripathi plays a pivotal role in the film.

The movie is a biopic on South actress Shakeela who just like Silk Smitha was known for sexy dance numbers and bold roles. After Smitha, it was Shakeela who had ruled the big screens down South.

The trailer of Shakeela is good, but it clearly looks like a sequel to The Dirty Picture which was a biopic on Silk Smitha. The character of Shakeela will remind you of Silk, and the character played by Pankaj Tripathi will remind you of Naseeruddin Shah’s character from the 2010 release. But, Shakeela looks like an interesting film.

Directed by Indrajit Lankesh, Shakeela is slated to release on 25th December 2020. The makers are planning to release it in 1000 screens across all over India which is the widest release for a movie post the lockdown.

It will be interesting to see what response the film gets at the box office. The movie will be hitting the big screens in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Talking about the movie, Lankesh said, "Shakeela is truly a labour of love and commitment to show Shakeela’s story is iconic in so many ways. Her story is almost folklore today, but the truth is that so much happened to her while she soared to success from nothing and then came back to nothing again. I’m happy that our producers are releasing the film so widely, giving me the confidence to know that it’s a film that will appeal to the larger masses. To release in so many languages was important because that was the power of Shakeela."
