Pakistan seeks five million Sputnik V doses from Russia

PAKISTAN has requested five million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine from Russia.

During a call on Monday (14), Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reaffirmed that relations with Russia were a key priority of Pakistan’s foreign policy.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s request for assistance in procuring five million doses of Sputnik V vaccine, according to the Tribune Express.

In a conversation with Russia's foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, Qureshi noted the progress of Pakistan-Russia relations in the past two decades and stressed strengthening their cooperation.

During the call, the two foreign ministers exchanged views on bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest, according to a statement issued by the foreign office.

“The two foreign ministers stressed the importance of follow-up action on the decisions made during the recent visits to transform these into tangible outcomes. Both sides agreed to work closely for an early negotiated political settlement of the Afghan issue,” said a statement.

Former Enfield mayor Mohammed Islam has apologised to the council for writing letters supporting visa applications for his family and friends. The independent councillor stood down from his mayoral position last August after Enfield Council's conduct committee found he had brought his office into disrepute.
The committee ordered him to make a written apology, undertake code of conduct training, and refrain from wearing his past mayor badge.

In his letter to the council on November (21), Islam said, "I would like to offer my sincere apology to the council for the conduct in relation to the invitation letters to attend council programmes".

"I recognise that the actions did not meet the standards expected of an elected member and may have affected confidence in the council."
