Family racially abused while paying respects at car crash scene

A grieving family was at the receiving end of racial abuse when they were paying their respects at the scene of an accident.

A passer-by hurled vile comments towards the family of Kulvinder Kaur,  who was walking along Cavendish Road in Beechdale, Walsall, on September 12 when she was struck by a Peugeot 206.

Sergeant Stephen Pursglove, from West Midlands Police, said: “Racial abuse is unacceptable at any time but feels even more despicable when a family have just lost a loved one.

“The abuser was on foot so we believe he may be local and most likely aware of what tragically happened just two days beforehand.

“This makes it all more deplorable and we are urging anyone who can help our investigation to get in touch as soon as possible.”

A 20-year-old man has been charged with causing the death of the 52-year-old by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene and other traffic offences.

Kaur was pronounced dead at the scene.
