9 Ways To Reduce Clutter In Your Home

By: Admin Super

Did you know that the average American move weighs around 8,000 pounds? This is equal to the size of a fully grown hippo. People have so much stuff that it’s become overwhelming, leaking into every room of the home.

We purchase things we don’t need, simply due to the ease of one-click purchases. We look for happiness in monetary goods and it takes a toll on our physical and mental health.

Is it time to regain control? Here are nine ways to reduce clutter in your home.

1.Rent a Storage Unit For Larger Items

Sometimes we have large items that take up far too much room in our garages, leaving little space for their intended purpose – our vehicles.

Instead of taking up space in your garage, consider renting a storage unit. Many storage units are built using storage building kits, meaning they come in a variety of sizes and options. Therefore, you can find what works best for you.

2.Start With The Most Obvious Spot First

Work on the most obvious spots of the house first. This might include the kitchen counter, the living room, or the collection of items on your dining room table.

When it’s out in the open, it’s the first thing you see. It makes you feel stressed when things are in disarray. This can make other decluttering projects feel even more difficult to manage.

3.Keep, Trash, and Donate

Are your closets and cabinets overflowing with things you don’t need? Don’t wait for spring to start decluttering.

Every household can take time every few months to weed out the items they don’t need. The best way to do this is by sorting items into three piles: keep, trash, and donate. This keeps the process organized and you can see realistically how much stuff you’re trying to keep.

4.Have A Memory Box

A lot of items may have sentimental value which makes them difficult to part with.

To avoid additional clutter, allow yourself one box that is designated for your mementos from the past. If it doesn’t fit in the box, it’s time to part ways.

5.Build Additional Shelving

Any room of the house can become overwhelmed by clutter. But one of the most common areas is the bathroom. It’s a smaller space that requires a lot of personal items and toiletries.

A great way to improve the storage space in a bathroom is by building additional shelving. Floating shelves are aesthetically appealing and don’t require any floor space.

6.Put Items Where You Use Them

Decluttering your home is also about having a sense of order. One of the best pieces of advice is to  always keep items where you use them.

If you can’t find a spot for them in the house that is sensible or practical, then it might be time to donate.

7.Use Drawer Organizers

It’s almost a right of passage for every household to have a junk drawer. That doesn’t mean that the junk drawer needs to be unorganized, though. Drawer organizers are extremely helpful when it comes to some of the smaller items in your house.

Now you can actually find the paperclips and post-it notes rather than continuously buying more when you can’t locate them.

8.Have a Yard Sale

Sometimes we need a little incentivizing to get rid of things. When you throw something away, it feels like a waste. But if you might make a little extra money on the side, you’re more inclined to get rid of it.

Put together items in your house you’d be willing to sell at a local yard sale. You might not make a huge profit, but it’s better to earn a few bucks than nothing.

9.Change Your Buying Habits

The best way to get rid of clutter is to start at the source. If you’re struggling with too much clutter, then it’s time to start reevaluating your buying habits.

Don’t buy more than what you need. Excess is what causes clutter in the first place. Do you already have four throw blankets at home? Skip that aisle on your next run to Homegoods.
