Indian-American singer Alyssa Raghunandan has become an overnight sensation due to her stunning performance on singing reality show American Idol.

Raghunandan belted out Ariana Grande’s Almost Is Never Enough in front of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie during the Season 16 premiere of the show.

Perry became an instant fan of the 15-year-old.

“You sound this good at 15,” Perry said, “you know your voice is going to grow, it’s gonna grow until like 21. All of my hairs on my legs, I have to go and shave them now. They just grew an inch and a half coz I full-body felt what you were singing.”

“I am a believer in you,” she added to Raghunandan. “You are Top 10.”

Country musician Bryan, too, praised the singer’s voice saying she was easy on the ears.

The first episode of the season also gave an insight into Raghunandan’s life before she came on the show.

Raised by a single father, Raghunandan said her father was her best friend. “My parents were divorced when I was two years old…When my mom left, it was really my dad who stayed to support me constantly,” the teenager said, adding that he has been there for every audition and every performance.

Her first song, Leave, was released in 2017 and it is available on iTunes and Spotify.
