List of films Deepika Padukone rejected

No doubt that Deepika Padukone is the numero uno queen of Bollywood with a long list of successful films to her credit. But the number of films she has turned down in the past is also very long. Here is the list of films Deepika Padukone rejected in the past. Of all the movies mentioned below, three were with superstar Salman Khan.

Sultan

Yash Raj Films wanted to bring Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone together for the first time. They did their best to convince the actress to sign the film, but Deepika did not accept the offer thinking she wouldn't get a meaty role to play opposite Khan. After her refusal, makers approached Anushka Sharma, who readily agreed to do the movie as it was the first time she had got a chance to team up with Salman Khan after working with Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Aamir Khan in PK. The film turned out to be a massive hit at the ticket window and still remains one of the biggest blockbusters of Anushka Sharma's movie career.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Another Yash Raj Films' movie Deepika refused to be a part of was Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Starring Salman Khan in the lead role, the film was directed by veteran filmmaker, Yash Chopra, and was his last ever film. The legendary filmmaker had offered Deepika the role of Meera, but the actress declined it. The character was ultimately played by Katrina Kaif. Many people still don't get it that how an actress can say no to star in a Yash Chopra's film!

Roy

Starring his ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, Roy released in 2015 and sank at the box office without a trace. Deepika was the first choice to essay the role of Ayesha Aamir in the movie. When she declined the offer, makers roped in Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead role. Well, after seeing the fate of the film, we will just say that Deepika made a wise decision.

Fast & Furious 7

Surprised? Yes, Deepika said no to Fast & Furious 7, one of the most popular Hollywood film franchises across the globe. The actress chose Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram-Leela over Vin Diesel's spectacular film. We are sure that after the humongous success of Ram Leela at the domestic box office, Deepika would not have regretted leaving the Hollywood biggie that much. But then Fast & Furious 7 was a bigger hit than Ram Leela in the Indian market.

Dhoom 3

It was the second time when Deepika Padukone's loss turned out to be Katrina Kaif's gain. When Deepika turned down Dhoom 3 opposite Aamir Khan, Yash Raj Films went to their favourite Katrina Kaif opposite Aamir Khan and completed the third instalment of Dhoom series. Upon its release, Dhoom 3 toppled many box office records and Katrina added another blockbuster to her resume.

Kick

When well-known film producer Sajid Nadiadwala decided to turn director, he could not think beyond Salman Khan to play the male lead as the superstar had been part of many of his blockbuster films.  When it came to casting the female lead, Sajid approached Deepika as she was the reigning queen of Bollywood. However, the filmmaker had to face rejection as Deepika turned down the movie. The film then went to Jacqueline Fernandez and the rest is history.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

Sooraj Barjatya was very excited about working with Salman Khan after a huge gap of 17 years. He wanted everything best for his next directorial Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. So, when he approached Deepika for his film, she reportedly turned down the offer. Then the makers roped in Sonam Kapoor. Upon release, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo became a blockbuster earning over INR 200 crores at the domestic box office. Deepika must have regretted turning down the film.

Shuddhi

Shuddhi used to be Karan Johar's most ambitious film once. But the film could never mount floors for one reason or the other and now it has been shelved. Karan wanted Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone in the movie, but it seems that both the actors are just not meant to star together.
