Confirmed! Deepika Padukone to star opposite Ranveer Singh in ‘83

There have been reports that Deepika Padukone will be seen playing the role of Romi Dev in Kabir Khan’s ’83 which stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role. The movie is based on India’s victory at the World Cup in the year 1983 and Ranveer will be seen playing the role of Kapil Dev in the movie. Now Deepika has confirmed that she has been roped in for the film.

While talking to an entertainment daily, the actress said, "I am so glad that Kabir came to me with it. This happened a couple of months ago when he was still casting the boys for the film. It’s just that I was busy with Chhapaak (her production debut, which wrapped up recently) and we were waiting for the right moment to make the announcement."

This will be Deepika and Ranveer’s first film together after their wedding. When the actress was asked if the dynamics would change now as Ranveer is her husband, Deepika said, "When you are in the business of movies, you are playing a character. Of course, all of this is yet to play out, but at the end of the day, you are essaying a role, and at that point, you are not thinking whether your co-actor is your husband, brother or someone you know closely. All you try to do is, be honest in that moment. The personal equation doesn’t spill over into the workspace. I can’t think of anyone else who could do justice to the role (of Kapil Dev), but if there was someone else playing him in the film, and not Ranveer, I would still do my part. This isn’t coming from a personal equation, but from my passion and enthusiasm for the film."

Deepika and Ranveer have earlier worked together in films like Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Talking about their other projects, Ranveer has Takht and Jayeshbhai Jordaar, and Deepika will be seen in Chhapaak.

Renters’ Rights Act kicks in across England: What changes for money, access and daily renting

  • Section 21 evictions are scrapped, ending sudden removals without reason.
  • Rent hikes capped, upfront payments limited and bidding wars banned.
  • New enforcement powers and fines of up to £40,000 come into force.

From May 1, renting in England is operating under a completely new rulebook. The Renters’ Rights Act has come into force, bringing what is being described as the biggest overhaul of tenant protections in nearly 40 years.

Around 11 million private renters are now covered under the new law. The changes are not limited to one area. They cut across evictions, rent increases, discrimination, contracts and even day-to-day living conditions, marking a structural shift in how the rental market functions.
