British tourist choked to death by Norwegian martial arts expert

A BRITISH Asian tourist was on Wednesday (21) choked to death in a hotel fight with a martial arts expert from Norway.

Amitpal Singh Bajaj, 34, got into an altercation with a guest at a hotel in Phuket, Thailand, after he and his family were kept awake by their neighbour, Roger Bullman.

Although hotel security visited the room of the Norwegian, the noise did not cease.

Grabbing a steak knife from the room, Bajaj confronted Bullman at 4 am on Wednesday.

According to the suspect, Bajaj stabbed him in his left shoulder before he gripped the British man in a choke-hold and. Bajaj was choked to death as his wife looked on.

Police Major Ekkachai Siri, of the Phuket Tourist Police, said Bullman has been charged for “causing harm resulting in death.”

The police chief said: “Mr Bullman was drunk and causing so much noise that hotel security came to warn Mr Bullman twice.

“Mr Bajaj carried a steak knife into Mr Bullman’s room. They started fighting and Mr Bajaj stabbed Mr Bullman in left shoulder.

“Bullman has been released on bail by the Phuket Provincial Court. He now must remain in Thailand until the charge against (him) has been heard in court.

“Meanwhile, British consular officials are in contact with Mr Bajaj’s family and already inform them about his tragic death.”
