Alia Bhatt learns cuss word to add authenticity to her part in Gangubai Kathiawadi

Ever since making her silver screen debut with Dharma Productions’ college-caper Student Of The Year (2012), actress Alia Bhatt has successfully pulled off a broad variety of roles. But the character that she essays in her upcoming film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, is going to be a whole new ball game.

In the much-talked-about Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, which started rolling a couple of days ago in Mumbai, Bhatt plays the role of a brothel owner. Since the period movie is based on prostitution, the actress will have to approach her character in a completely different way. From changing her body language to speaking in a certain way, she is required to do a lot of preparation to perfect her part in the movie.

The latest we hear that Alia Bhatt is learning cuss words in Hindi and Marathi as part of her preparation for her character in the film. This is a completely new territory for the actress who has mostly appeared in films which cater to the family audience. Though Gangubai Kathiawadi targets all segments of the audience, it will be interesting to see how people react to Alia Bhatt hurling a torrent of invective in the movie.

For the uninitiated, Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on a brothel owner and matriarch, known as Gangubai Kathewali. She was forced into prostitution at a very young age, who grew up to become one of the most powerful women in the flesh trade with close connections with several high-profile politicians and gangsters.

Ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is calling the shots for Gangubai Kathiawadi. It marks her first collaboration with Alia Bhatt who is currently one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayanti Gada under their respective banners Bhansali Productions and Pen India Limited, the movie is scheduled to enter theatres on 11th September, 2020.
