THE dream team of Sanjay Kohli and Binaifer Kohli have delivered hit TV serials, including current successes Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, Jijaji Chhat Par Hai and Happu Ki Ultan Paltan.
The ace producers have assembled amazing teams for each family-friendly serial and are helping shape Indian television.
Eastern Eye caught up with Sanjay Kohli to talk about all things television with him.
How do you look back on your journey as a producer?
My journey as a producer has been very fruitful because I am a creative person. I’ve been given a chance to create by various people, for which I’m thankful. And we’ve created some great content. and it gives me great joy to see the appreciation.
What draws you to a subject or serial?
It’s uniqueness and if it’s edged out very well.
Tell us about your latest serials, and why do you think they are running so successfully?
Our current serial Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain is a rage of the nation! Jijaji Chhat Par Hain is a leading serial and Happu Ki Ultan Paltan has stood right next to Bhabiji. They have been successful because they are different. They are unique and very focused on everything.
What is your future plan?
Our future plans are a couple of web series, as well as a couple of new serials. And of course, there’s a superbly written movie in the pipeline.
What do you enjoy watching on TV?
I enjoy watching all the shows. I enjoyed The Family Man, which has Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role. It was so well written, directed, enacted. The pace was just right. Everything about it was just right. It was an amazing web series.
What inspires you?
The team’s hard work inspires me! The team’s focus and encouragement, along with the channel’s encouragement and supportiveness are so motivating. They have full faith in us and show great appreciation, which makes me want to work harder.
Why do you love working as a producer?
I love working as a producer because my team is great. Zee is special to me because I was the first producer on the channel. Also, I love working with my team as most of the members have been with me for the last 25 years. A lot of them have started with us. My writer used to sleep in my office as he came from out of town. My cameraman has been with me since the first season started. My director has been with me ever since he branched out to work as a separate main director. He started with us because we gave him a break. And of course, my writer and director are like brothers to me. My creative team is superb and hard working. My technicians are amazing. They live in my heart.
