Vidya Balan confirms playing Indira Gandhi in a web-series

Putting an end to all speculations swirling around, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has confirmed starring in an upcoming web-series which will be based on the eventful life of former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

The series will be an adaptation of Sagarika Ghose’s popular book Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister. Initially, the makers wanted to adapt the book for a feature film. However, the idea was dropped later due to the large amount of text.

“There is too much material for it be made into a film. So, we decided to turn it into a web series. We don’t know how many seasons we will be allotted to it. We are in the process of putting together a team,” said Balan.

Ronnie Screwvala will produce the untitled series. More details on the cast and crew are being kept under the wrap.

Besides a web-series on Indira Gandhi, National Film Award-winning actress Vidya Balan is also doing a biopic on late South Indian actor and politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama, also known as NTR.

A film surrounded by noise

Sudha Kongara is among the few Tamil directors whose films carry a distinct voice. With Parasakthi, that voice has had to compete with chaos. Long before release, the film was caught in disputes over its title, shifting cast announcements, ED searches, plagiarism claims and, finally, a list of changes demanded by the Central Board of Film Certification.

In all that, the film itself risked becoming secondary. Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela in her Tamil debut, retells the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitation in Tamil Nadu. The core of the film unfolds over just 19 days , from January 24–25 to February 12, 1965.
