Veere Di Wedding: Friendship for life

THE trailer for soon-to-be-released comedy Veere Di Wedding has been like an out of control tornado that has swept up Bollywood fans in waves of laughter.

Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania play four firm friends negotiating romance in the modern day-set story.

Sonam revealed the chemistry wasn’t hard to achieve between the lead cast because they are such good friends. She said: “Everybody was on the same page and we were having so much fun. I think it’s the most fun I have had working on a film.”

Although Kareena had signed Veere Di Wedding before she became pregnant, it is her first cinematic release since becoming a mother. She is thankful to producer Rhea Kapoor for adjusting the schedule so she could remain a part of the movie.

“This was probably the only script I read and really wanted to do. The language of the film, the concept, the fact I don’t think there has ever been a movie about four strong women. I am just happy to be a part of this ensemble cast,” said Kareena.

The popular actress hasn’t thought about what she will be doing next and will plan things around her 16-month-old baby, but did promise to act in at least one or two films a year going forward.

Newcomer Shikha Talsani said she was grateful to work with a welcoming team with so much experience, and described collaborating with them was a dream come true. Swara, like Shikha, said a high point for her was just being near Kareena, but another challenge she faced was the fashion.

“For me, the acting was wearing clothes. I was so stressed out and have never worked as hard in any film as this one to get a little bit close to how they looked. This has been the hardest for me,” joked Swara.

It is evident the four fabulous females share the same friendship away from work as they do in Veere Di Wedding. When asked about friends being like family as the film suggests, each one had a unique reply:

“It was a great experience, I don’t think I have ever felt this level of friendship, fun and bonding on any film as I have on this one. So it was great fun apart from the tension of the looks and clothes,” said Swara.

“I think that is the spirit of the film, and everyone is finally going to get to see what we have done. It has come out very naturally, very real, lots of fun. I am very happy that I worked with my friends and hope we can always maintain this friendship for years to come,” said Kareena.

“Friends are so important that they are like your family. It would be lovely if our family were like our friends. I think we have hopefully tried to capture that spirit in this film,” said Shikha.

“You don’t choose your family, but you can choose your friends. Obviously I love my family to death, but my friends hold a really special part because you really choose your friends and understand who is there for you and who is not.

“I worked with my sister, who is my family and best friend, and also with some of my close friends. You realise that when push comes to shove, friends are always there.”
