Sonam Kapoor: My father is never critical of me

Sonam Kapoor will be collaborating with her father Anil Kapoor for the first time in Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga which is currently in the shooting stage.

Speaking about the same, Sonam said to a leading Indian tabloid, "It has taken me 10 years to work with my father. I'm more excited than nervous to be working with him. We never interacted in a professional capacity, not even during the shoot of our productions Khoobsurat (2014) or Aisha (2010)."

Talking about whether she receives any professional advice from her father, Sonam said, "My father is never critical of me. My mother is [critical], but not him. He thinks Rhea [Kapoor, sister] and I are the best, and loves the way we handle our work. Dads are usually like that with their daughters."

Helmed by Shelly Chopra Dhar and bankrolled by her brother Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the cast of the movie also includes, Juhi Chawla and Rajkummar Rao.

Earlier, speaking about the film, Shelly had said, "I just came back from a meeting with Anil and he is like a kid, extremely excited about his role. His character sports a look that hasn't been seen on him in a long time. We will be shooting at a family house in Patiala, which is a perfect setting for the film. I am shooting entirely at real locations as I want the film to develop as organically as possible. We can't wait to start rolling now."

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is scheduled to release on October 12, 2018.

Riz Ahmed’s 'Hamlet' trailer drops murder suspicion into a South Asian business dynasty

Highlights:

  • Hamlet trailer lands with Riz Ahmed in the lead role
  • Film sets Shakespeare inside a wealthy British South Asian family
  • Directed by Aneil Karia and in cinemas 6 February 2025
  • Cast includes Morfydd Clark, Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chadha and Art Malik

Riz Ahmed has entered Hamlet in a way British cinema has not quite seen. The new Hamlet trailer has been released by Universal, giving the first proper look at Aneil Karia’s modern take on Shakespeare and placing the story inside a British South Asian business empire. It is due in cinemas on 6 February, and the footage shows a tense, controlled Ahmed moving through grief, suspicion and family power.

The film teams Ahmed and Karia again after The Long Goodbye, which won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. That success informs this production. This is the first time a major UK studio release has grounded Hamlet within a South Asian household for a wide audience.
