Siddharth Malhotra excited about medical-drama Sanjivani 2

One of Indian television’s most popular shows Sanjivani has returned with its second season. Produced by Siddharth Malhotra, Sanjivani 2 aired its first episode on 12th August and received excellent response from the audience.

Producer Siddharth Malhotra, who has given his heart and soul to the show, is psyched up about the return of Sanjivani after the original series gained cult status more than a decade ago. The original show came at a time when Indian television was flooded with saas-bahu sagas. Sanjivani was like a fresh breath of air which impressed all segments of the audience.

Recreating a show that set such a high standard and became a mass-favourite was not an easy task. It has been a challenging but equally rewarding journey for producer Siddharth Malhotra. “There is always pressure and expectation while recreating a cult-classic. We did a one-episode preview and we have received a phenomenal response, so the show already has hype around it. The promo itself has been seen by over 2.5 million people. For me, more than the pressure, it is the passion of creating something which has been my dream. To make it what it was when I was 21 was one thing, now I am working with double the passion and hard work,” says the producer.

Siddharth is known for creating different content, and his expertise is not limited to television only. For the unversed, Malhotra has also directed noted films like We Are Family (2010) and Hichki (2018). Hichki, which released last year, marked the comeback of seasoned actress Rani Mukerji. It was one of the most successful films of the year.

Meanwhile, Sanjivani 2 has started airing. Featuring Mohnish Bahl, Surbhi Chandna, Namit Khanna and Gurdeep Kohli in important roles, the show airs Monday to Friday at 7:30 PM only on Star Plus.

What Britain’s ban on strangulation porn really means and why campaigners say it could backfire

Highlights:

  • Government to criminalise porn that shows strangulation or suffocation during sex.
  • Part of wider plan to fight violence against women and online harm.
  • Tech firms will be forced to block such content or face heavy Ofcom fines.
  • Experts say the ban responds to medical evidence and years of campaigning.

You see it everywhere now. In mainstream pornography, a man’s hands around a woman’s neck. It has become so common that for many, especially the young, it just seems like part of sex, a normal step. The UK government has decided it should not be, and soon, it will be a crime.

The plan is to make possessing or distributing pornographic material that shows sexual strangulation, often called ‘choking’, illegal. This is a specific amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. Ministers are acting on the back of a stark, independent review. That report found this kind of violence is not just available online, but it is rampant. It has quietly, steadily, become normalised.
