My pod with Honey Jalaf

Model and actor-turned-rapper Honey Jalaf recently made his debut in the music industry with Saada Time Aauga, which is a Punjabi version of the hit Bollywood song Aapna Time Aayega from Gully Boy.

The rising star is already working on his next track and begins shooting his third Punjabi film this year. Eastern Eye got him to select 10 songs he loves.

Mera Rang De Basanti from The Legend of Bhagat Singh: My top song. I love this song because it captures the passion and love for the country in the heart of Bhagat Singh. I love the lyrics and its deep meaning. I think whenever anyone hears this song they will feel a bit of pride and passion. The words and music make me emotional.

Boot Polishan by Gurdas Maan: I love this song because of the message the great Gurdas gives. No matter what the work is, it should always be respected. I am a true believer that everyone will go through struggles and no job is big or small, as long as you work hard and focus on your dreams. I always dreamed to go into acting and modelling. It’s been a tough journey, but so worth it.

Main Tenu Samjhawan Ki from Virsa: I love this song because of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice. He sang this song so beautifully. I love this kind of track not because I miss someone, but simply because in slow songs I get to appreciate the singer’s abilities and efforts. Slow songs make you feel something; when you drive or travel you can just zone out.

Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye from Kalyug: Another song I love because of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice. He sang this track so beautifully. I love this kind of songs because I get to appreciate the singer’s abilities and efforts.

Maa by Kuldip Manak: This song is about a mother. I love the lyrics and its meaning. Also, I love the way Kuldip Manak has sung this amazing track.

So High by Sidhu Moose Wala: This is a banger track. I love Sidhu’s voice in this. It has a great video too. The music is composed so well and I think, as a track, this is one that can be played repeatedly. This song makes you feel good.

Ishqan De Lekhe by Sajjan Adeeb: I love the emotions in this song. This was his first track and I fell in love with his very distinct voice.

Dil Darda by Roshan Prince: A beautiful song. I enjoy Roshan’s voice and this song has a great video and meaning to go with it. I enjoy all types of music, but again, love slow songs, because they connect with me the most.

Ki Banu Duniya Da by Gurdas Maan and Diljit Dosanjh: This is one of my favourite tracks. Old school with a modern twist. I enjoyed this song in the original Mamla Gadbad Hai and when I heard this version I was shocked to see two massive stars collaborating.

Apna Time Aayega from Gully Boy: My new rap number takes inspiration from this song. This song tells you the struggle of an artist from a poor background. I love it because of its lyrics. It is very motivational.

How Southeast Asian storytelling became one of Netflix’s fastest-growing global pillars

Highlights:

  • Netflix says global viewing of Southeast Asian titles rose almost 50% between 2023 and 2024.
  • Premium VOD revenue in the region reached £1.44 billion (₹15,300 crore) last year, with 53.6 million subscriptions.
  • Netflix holds more than half of the region’s total viewing and remains its biggest investor in originals.
  • New rivals, including Max, Viu and Vidio, are forcing sharper competition.
  • Local jobs, training and tourism are increasing as productions expand across the region.

Last year, something shifted in what the world watched. Global viewership of Southeast Asian content on Netflix grew by nearly 50%, and this isn't just a corporate milestone; it’s a signal. Stories from Jakarta, Bangkok, and Manila are no longer regional curiosities. They are now part of the global mainstream.

The numbers tell a clear story. Over 100 Southeast Asian titles have now entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 lists. More than 40 of those broke through in 2024 alone. This surge is part of a bigger boom in the region’s own backyard. The total premium video-on-demand market in Southeast Asia saw viewership hit 440 billion minutes in 2024, with revenues up 14% to £1.44 billion (₹15,300 crore). Netflix commands over half of that viewership and 42% of the revenue. They have a clear lead, but the entire market is rising.
