Mukesh Khanna confirms sequel to his iconic superhero show Shaktimaan

Actor Mukesh Khanna has played a variety of roles over the years, but the one character which made him hugely popular among children was Shaktimaan. Shaktimaan, which ran on Doordarshan from 13th September 1997 to 27th March 2005, prides on being the first and most successful superhero series from India.

Apart from playing the title role of Shaktimaan and his alter ego Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri, Khanna also produced the show under his banner. Months after its launch, Shaktimaan went on to become one of the most watched television shows on Indian television.

Amidst the 21-day lockdown, India’s public sector broadcaster Doordarshan has started the re-run of some of its most iconic shows including Ramayan (1987-88), Mahabharat (1988-90) and Circus (1989-90) among others. Hence, fans wanted Shaktimaan to return as well.

While the demand to bring back the superhero show is quite high, Mukesh Khanna has confirmed that he is coming up with a sequel to the iconic series. Yes, you heard it absolutely right! Talking to a publication, Khanna revealed that he has been working on the sequel for the past three years.

"For the last three years, we have been working towards bringing out the second edition of Shaktimaan, which is contemporary, but rooted in our values. We were working on the sequel because people wanted to know what happened next. I feel whenever we return to work after this (Coronavirus) crisis, I will be in a better position to bring out the second part because the demand for it is higher than ever before,” said Khanna.

After essaying the role of Shaktimaan, Mukesh Khanna went on to play pivotal parts in several films and television shows, but he is still remembered as the first Superhero from India.
