After Judwaa 2, Varun to star in Biwi No. 1 remake

Judwaa 2, which was a reboot version of Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor's 1997 blockbuster film, Judwaa, turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of actor Varun Dhawan's career. Judwaa and Judwaa 2, both films were directed by Varun's father David Dhawan.

After the earth-shattering success of Judwaa 2, the father-son duo is all set to remake another popular film from the 90s, Biwi No. 1, which also starred Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles.

“The discussions are presently at the nascent stage. The Dhawans will start work on the film in the coming year. Biwi No.1 is one of Varun’s favourite films and he is excited to collaborate with his father once again. Shooting dates and casting of the leading ladies will begin once the final script is locked,” reveals a source.

If the remake of Biwi No. 1 is really made, it will mark Varun Dhawan's third collaboration with his father David Dhawan. Both have previously worked together on films like Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2.

Talking about Varun's other projects, the Badlapur actor has just wrapped up Shoojit Sircar's October. He will now start shooting for Yash Raj Films upcoming movie, Sui Dhaaga opposite Anushka Sharma.

  • Why the film frames the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation through one man’s choices
  • Balancing politics, melodrama and cinema
  • How music, casting and tone were shaped by craft, not compromise

A film surrounded by noise

Sudha Kongara is among the few Tamil directors whose films carry a distinct voice. With Parasakthi, that voice has had to compete with chaos. Long before release, the film was caught in disputes over its title, shifting cast announcements, ED searches, plagiarism claims and, finally, a list of changes demanded by the Central Board of Film Certification.

In all that, the film itself risked becoming secondary. Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela in her Tamil debut, retells the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition agitation in Tamil Nadu. The core of the film unfolds over just 19 days , from January 24–25 to February 12, 1965.
