Here’s what Karan Johar has to say about pay disparity in Bollywood

The discussions on the pay disparity have been going on in the industry from the past many years. Many actresses have spoken up about being not paid as much as the male actors in the industry.

Recently, at the trailer launch of Good Newwz, when Karan Johar was asked about the pay disparity in the industry, the filmmaker said, “We at Dharma Production have always maintained the ethos of actually making sure that everyone, including men and women, artists and technicians, and everyone else gets paid solidly for their craft and art, their ability, and their work. All of us are here for the blend of commerce and art; none of us are here just for one of them.”

“When it comes to female-led films, we have always made sure that there’s no disparity at our end. There’s now profit share given, in the near future you will see producer credit given to the female-led films. When they dominate the film, they lead the film, then they must have a humungous part of the pie. You will hear announcements in the future that women-led films made by Dharma Productions will have producer credits and profit shares. There is and there will not be any disparity in our company and I can see that happening in the film fraternity as well,” Karan added.

Well, it is clearly good to see a filmmaker speaking about giving female actresses a producer’s credit and profit-sharing. While our male stars are getting these things from the past many years, it will surely be a big change in the industry if female stars also start getting it.

By the way, now we wait for Karan Johar to announce female-led films under Dharma Productions.
