After Hichki, Rani Mukerji to headline sequel to her hit film Mardaani

After garnering rave reviews for her role of an aspiring teacher having Tourette syndrome in hit film Hichki (2018), popular Hindi film actress Rani Mukerji will next be seen in Mardaani 2. The movie is a sequel to her 2014 crime thriller film Mardaani which was a critical and commercial success at the box-office.

While Mardaani was helmed by well-known filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar, the directorial baton for the sequel has been passed on to Gopi Puthran, who wrote the predecessor. The film will be produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.

"Mardaani is and will always be extremely close to my heart. Right since its release, everyone has asked me time and again when I would be doing Mardaani 2 and I'm sure this announcement will come as a pleasant surprise to them all. Gopi has written an extraordinary script that we all love and I can't wait to start shooting this film soon," Rani Mukerji said in a statement.

In the first film, Mukerji’s character was pitted against a powerful villain called Karan Rastogi, a character played by Tahir Raj Bhasin. The actress says that the villain in Mardaani 2 will be merciless and with no empathy.

"Shivani will face a cold, merciless villain who has no empathy, no fear of God and is pure evil. The character has been written superbly and I'm excited to find out who the actor will be."

Set to begin production in 2019, Mardaani 2 will hit the silver screen in by the end of the next year.

Charli XCX Wuthering Heights drops her straight into a new lane that is moodier, louder in emotion, and stitched to a film that’s already carrying weight. The singer’s new album, which ties into Emerald Fennell’s adaptation, is clearly a sharp pivot from the neon chaos of Brat. You hear that in Chains of Love, the new single, and in the way she talks about this chapter in her notes on the Charli XCX new album plans.
