E-GUIDE

‘Acting makes you feel alive’

By: Manju Chandran

RISING star Wahaj Ali has impressed audiences with his ability to take on challenging roles in acclaimed drama serials.

The versatile actor’s latest project is massively popular television serial Ehd-e-Wafa on Hum TV and he is one to watch in 2020 as he continues his impressive rise.

Eastern Eye caught up with Wahaj Ali to talk all things television.

What first connected you to acting?
When you rerun all your emotions through acting, it makes you feel alive and that was the first connecting factor. When I experienced that, I started to enjoy acting even more.

Which of your projects has given you most joy?
I think the main thing is that when you are working with people who are the best in their craft, you really enjoy the whole process. As for my favourites, to name a few; Haiwan, Ehd-e-Wafa and Dil Nawaz I like the most.

Tell us about your current project?
My current project on air is Ehd-e-wafa on Hum TV. With this drama, we want to show how people are working for their homeland, and how if we work together we can achieve anything.

Tell us about your current role and the biggest challenge in playing it?
In Ehd-e-Wafa, I am playing Shariq and he is an ambitious, sensitive and expressive guy. Even though I too have these traits, connecting with a character is not easy. The transitions that he goes through and how he makes something out of his life, were challenging to portray on-screen.

What’s your dream role?
I don’t believe in dream roles. Whatever you are doing, just make sure you are giving it your best.

Who would you love to work with?
I like working with people who are hardworking.

What content do you enjoy watching?
I’m watching a lot of stuff on Netflix. I recently watched Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana; I loved the film and its concept.

What are your big passions away from work?
I love gardening and collecting different kinds of plants in my house.

What inspires you?
My daughter, my mother and my wife – all of them inspire me. Sometimes, the wind inspires me, the first ray of sun inspires me, and it makes me feel fresh and motivated.

Why do you love being an actor?
I like acting because you get a break from your usual life, and transform into another person. It’s a great way to gain exposure and learn new things.
