The UK has announced plans to introduce a new system of consent for organ and tissue donation in a bid to meet the urgent need for organs for people from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. The new system is expected to come into effect in spring 2020. The announcement comes after the Government launched a campaign, led by NHS Blood and Transplant with support from the National BAME Transplant Alliance, to address the cultural and religious barriers to organ donation in certain communities.
