'Sanjay Dutt should not be glorified'

Sanju, the biopic on Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, is raking in money at the box office. But the actor should not be glorified, as Dutt is someone with a criminal past, believes Union Minister and former Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh.

Dutt was arrested in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts and was released from prison in 2016. The movie Sanju, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, details Dutt's rise and fall and also his rebirth. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer has bared it all for viewers: Dutt's drug abuse phase, his brush with terrorism and also the loss of his mother.

"I think glorification of criminals should be avoided, whether it is Dawood Ibrahim or any other person. There should not be any glorification of Sanjay Dutt also. Truth should come out before the society," Singh told reporters.

"I don't watch films....I have not seen that film. Everybody knows about Sanjay Dutt...There is no question of my opinion (on the subject)," Singh said.

However, he pointed out that filmmakers should be given the freedom to make the films they want. "There is democracy in the country and people enjoy freedom of expression so that they can speak whatever they can," he said.

Ranbir has been basking in the glory of Sanju's success, and one of his biggest moments when dad Rishi Kapoor praised his acting.

"Cheers Ranbir! You don't know how proud your parents are. Thank you and god bless you. Aur bhi achcha kaam karo!" Rishi tweeted after Sanju touched 100 crores. Rishi has been pouring praises on Ranbir ever since Sanju's trailer released

"Rajkumar Hirani has presented Ranbir is the biggest superb thing. The boy has really done well. I am so proud of him. I swear on Neetu and Ranbir, I did not think it was Ranbir, I thought it was Sanjay Dutt," he said in a statement.
