Jameela Jamil on her role in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin: ‘Possibly the most ridiculous character on television in recent memory’

Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, a spinoff of the film series Pitch Perfect, premieres on Peacock today November 23, 2022.

The blockbuster series follows Bumper Allen, the film franchise's antagonist played by Adam Devine, who move to Germany to pursue a career in music when one of his songs becomes a hit in Berlin.

The six-episode series follows the iconic Pitch Perfect character almost a decade after we last saw him. There are more cast members from the old films and new additions to the team. Apart from Adam Devine as Bumper, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin also has Flula Borg as Pieter, Lera Abova as DJ Das Boot, Jameela Jamil as Gisela, and Sarah Hyland as Heidi.

Jameela Jamil, who plays the main villain Gisela, told a publication that becoming part of the “beloved franchise” was daunting, but working with Amram made her feel at home.

She added that she had complete freedom to develop her character, who she called “possibly the most ridiculous character on television in recent memory.”

Showrunner Megan Amram said that it was fun to create the new cast of characters and just see Bumper off on his own adventure. “I wanted to make sure in making a spin-off of the Pitch Perfect movies that this world felt recognizable enough so that OG fans wouldn't feel like we had completely exploded the universe. But it was also really fun to create this new cast of characters and just see Bumper off on his own adventure.”

She further added, "We thought that Bumper would be the perfect character to learn more about, to try to humanize to the point that you're rooting for him and populate the world with other sweet yet silly characters.”

The real reason Kurt Sutter was excluded from Charlie Hunnam’s biker drama ‘Sons of Anarchy’

Highlights

  • Kurt Sutter says he has no involvement in Charlie Hunnam’s Legends.
  • Hunnam approached him while pitching the project and asked for his blessing.
  • The new FX limited series brings several Sons of Anarchy stars together as themselves.

For Sons of Anarchy fans, Charlie Hunnam bringing much of the old gang back together for Legends naturally raises one question: where is Kurt Sutter?

Sutter created the original FX biker drama, served as its showrunner and executive producer, and helped build the world that turned Jax Teller and the Sons into television icons. Yet he has no creative role in Legends. According to Sutter, however, that is not the result of a falling-out with Hunnam or FX. It is because the new series belongs to a different idea entirely.
