India’s most expensive film 2.0 pockets over ₹ 500 crore in its first week

Headlined by Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, India’s most expensive film 2.0 has exceeded all expectations at the cash counter. The sci-fi thriller, which entered cinemas on 29th November, has crossed ₹ 500 crore mark worldwide within just a week of its theatrical release.

Dharma Productions’ head honcho Karan Johar, who presented the Hindi version of the movie, took to Twitter to share its first-week collection. His tweet read, “A box office PHENOMENA!!!! 500 crores worldwide!!!!! We at @DharmaMovies are so proud to be associated with the HINDI version of this movie marvel!!!!”

The Shankar directorial opened to mixed reviews, but the crazy fan following of southern superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar ensured that it registers a terrific start at the box-office. It earned ₹ 20.25 crore from its Hindi dubbed version on the day of its release.

Just like the other versions of the movie, the Hindi version of 2.0 is still doing phenomenal business at the ticket window. It has clocked ₹ 132 crores in its first week and stands as the eighth biggest hit of 2018 so far.

2.0 is now the second highest grossing Hindi dubbed movie of all times, only behind Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which had accumulated ₹ 511 crores in its lifetime.

Anurag Kashyap calls Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos "the definition of dumb" over 'Sacred Games' remark

Anurag Kashyap is known for being outspoken, and this weekend he made headlines again, this time taking aim at Netflix’s top boss Ted Sarandos. The filmmaker lashed out after Sarandos questioned the streaming platform’s early approach in India, particularly their decision to kick things off with Kashyap’s gritty crime drama Sacred Games in 2018.

During an interview on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast People by WTF, Sarandos said he may have chosen a more “populist” route if he could go back, admitting the series was perhaps too novel for the Indian market at the time. The comments didn’t sit well with Kashyap, who fired back on social media, calling Sarandos “the definition of dumb” and sarcastically suggesting the platform should’ve launched with traditional “saas-bahu” content instead.
