Confirmed! Saaho gets postponed, won’t clash with Mission Mangal and Batla House

Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Saaho was slated to hit the screens on 15th August 2019. A few days ago, there were reports that the makers of the film are planning to postpone the release date. It was said that they want to postpone their film as the team requires more time to work on the VFX. Also, reportedly, they didn’t want their film to clash with Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal and John Abraham’s Batla House.

Now, the makers have officially announced that the movie has been postponed to 30th August 2019. UV Creations, the producers of the film have posted an official statement on Twitter. In the statement, they have written that they don’t want to compromise on the content and quality of the film. It also has a quote from the spokesperson which reads, “We want to bring the best to the audience. For bringing finesse to the action sequences we need some more time. Although we are shifting the date from Independence Day we want to stick to the month of Independence and patriotism with Saaho. We are dedicated to bringing the biggest movie on the largest scale."

So, now this Independence Day it will only be Mission Mangal vs Batla House at the box office. However, even after the delay, Saaho won’t get a solo release. On the same day, Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Chhichhore, and Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy starrer Made In China is slated to hit the screens.

The interesting part is that Saaho and Chhichhore, both the film stars Shraddha Kapoor as the female lead. So, will it be a Shraddha Kapoor vs Shraddha Kapoor at the box office? Also, we wonder how the actress will manage the promotions of the films. Well, let’s wait and watch. It reminds us that last year in August also Shraddha had faced the same situation. Her movies Stree and Batti Gul Meter Chalu were supposed to clash at the box office. However, the latter was then postponed.

How Southeast Asian storytelling became one of Netflix’s fastest-growing global pillars

Highlights:

  • Netflix says global viewing of Southeast Asian titles rose almost 50% between 2023 and 2024.
  • Premium VOD revenue in the region reached £1.44 billion (₹15,300 crore) last year, with 53.6 million subscriptions.
  • Netflix holds more than half of the region’s total viewing and remains its biggest investor in originals.
  • New rivals, including Max, Viu and Vidio, are forcing sharper competition.
  • Local jobs, training and tourism are increasing as productions expand across the region.

Last year, something shifted in what the world watched. Global viewership of Southeast Asian content on Netflix grew by nearly 50%, and this isn't just a corporate milestone; it’s a signal. Stories from Jakarta, Bangkok, and Manila are no longer regional curiosities. They are now part of the global mainstream.

The numbers tell a clear story. Over 100 Southeast Asian titles have now entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 lists. More than 40 of those broke through in 2024 alone. This surge is part of a bigger boom in the region’s own backyard. The total premium video-on-demand market in Southeast Asia saw viewership hit 440 billion minutes in 2024, with revenues up 14% to £1.44 billion (₹15,300 crore). Netflix commands over half of that viewership and 42% of the revenue. They have a clear lead, but the entire market is rising.
