Alia’s debut movie in a lead role was in 2012 with Kara Johar’s Student of the Year. She played the rich and sophisticated role of Shanaya, who was in a relationship with Varun Dhawan’s role but was also attracted towards Sidharth Malhotra’s role. Alia was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for this movie.


Highway

Highway, which was Alia’s second movie, was completely opposite to Student of the Year. From her fashionable role to playing a character that gets kidnapped, her performance was praised by both the audiences and critics. She won Stardust New Talent Awards Superstar of Tomorrow (Female) and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.

This was Alia’s second film with Karan Johar. She played the character of Ananya Swaminathan who is an economics topper from Tamil Nadu. 2 States was a commercial success and received 21st Life OK Screen Awards for Best Film Marketing.

Udta Punjab

After performing in several successful movies, Alia played the role of a migrant worker called Kumari Pinky. She won Filmfare Award for Best Actress, Star Screen Award for Best Actress, Zee Cine Award for Best Actor – Female, IIFA Best Actress in a Leading Role, Big Star Entertainment Award for Most Entertaining Actor – Female for this role.

Raazi 

Raazi is Alia’s last movie of this year in a leading role, which was also with Karan Johar. Her role was of a Kashmiri spy, who marries a Pakistani officer to spy on Pakistan during the war in 1971. Raazi is one of the highest – grossing Hindi films, which features a female protagonist. The Box Office India also credited Alia as the most successful contemporary actresses of Indian cinema.
