Satellite Shankar movie review: This Sooraj Pancholi starrer has its heart in the right place

While trying to save the country and keep the citizens safe, Indian soldiers surely live a tough life. They don’t get leaves and are away from their families for months and sometimes even more than a year. Irfan Kamal’s Satellite Shankar is basically a tribute to the soldiers and their families.

Shankar (Sooraj Pancholi), a soldier gets injured during firing between India and Pakistan. While he is told to rest for eight days, Shankar requests that instead of resting at base camp for eight days, he wants to go and meet his mother. He gets the leave but he has to be back to his base on the eighth day and then starts the journey of Shankar from Kashmir to Pollachi. But, the journey isn’t easy. Will he be able to reach home on time and come back to the base as per the promise? Watch the film to know that…

The basic concept of the film is quite good; a soldier on his way to meet his mother and how he starts helping others during the journey without being selfish. The makers have very well got the emotional angle here. The scenes where Shankar meets the families of the other soldiers are the highlight of the film. The movie has a very sweet romantic track and thankfully it’s not a hurdle in the narrative. Irfan Kamal has surely come up with a decent movie and Jitan Harmeet Singh’s cinematography is simply amazing. We get to see different locations of India and they shot beautifully.

Well, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no negative element in the movie. The film starts on a very dull note and the first 15-20 minutes are really boring. A dance number has been put forcefully just to show that Sooraj is a good dancer. The movie only gets interesting when Shankar starts his journey.

Sooraj Pancholi is good in his part, but it’s a very strong character and some other actor might have done it better. Also, he fails to get the body language of an army officer. While the movie’s name is Satellite Shankar, it is actually both the actresses who impress us more than the lead actor here. Megha Akash, who has done a few films in the South, is excellent in the film. She makes a confident debut and we hope to see her in more Bollywood films. Palomi Ghosh is fantastic in the movie and leaves a strong mark with her act.

Overall, Satellite Shankar is a good film and has its heart in the right place. It successfully gives a tribute to our soldiers and especially their families.

Instagram blocks profiles of Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in India amid rising tensions

The Instagram profiles of Pakistani celebrities like Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan are no longer accessible in India. This development comes just weeks before Fawad’s planned Bollywood return with Abir Gulaal and follows a series of social media restrictions tied to the worsening India–Pakistan relationship.

When Indian fans try to view the artists' Instagram pages, they’re met with a message: "Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content." No official clarification has come from either the Indian government or Meta, but the timing is significant. The move comes days after a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region killed 26 people, most of them tourists. It was one of the deadliest attacks since the 2008 Mumbai carnage.

BRITAIN’s health security agency has urged pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah to get vaccinated against meningococcal disease, following a small number of recent cases in the country linked to travel.

Between February and March, five people in England and Wales developed MenW, a type of meningococcal infection, after either visiting Saudi Arabia or having close contact with someone who had, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has said.

Trans women banned from playing women's cricket in England and Wales

TRANSGENDER women have been banned from playing in women’s and girls’ cricket in England and Wales following a policy change announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday.

The ECB’s decision follows a UK Supreme Court ruling last month which stated that the legal definition of a "woman" is based on a person’s sex at birth and does not include transgender women who hold a gender recognition certificate.

Lancashire bats for Indian board to join The Hundred

THE England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) should offer the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) a minority ownership stake in The Hundred to attract Indian players to the competition, Lancashire CEO Daniel Gidney has suggested.

“I think it’s possible. If I was the ECB, I’d be talking about perhaps bringing the BCCI in as a minority ownership partner in the tournament as a whole. If you do that, then you are aligning interests,” Gidney told the ESPNCricinfo website.
