BOLLYWOOD actress Priyanka Chopra and US Indian actress-writer Mindy Kaling are among the highest paid television actresses in the world, Forbes magazine has said.
Priyanka is the first Indian star to enter the list, following her role in the US drama, Quantico.
Colombian American actress Sofia Vergara tops the ranking for the fifth year in a row, with Kaling in third place and Priyanka, eighth.
Vergara, 44, one of the ensemble cast of hit comedy Modern Family, is reported to have made $43 million before management fees and taxes, but not all came from the award-winning TV show. An array of endorsement deals as well as her line of products placed her in the top position.
Actress Kaley Cuoco, who stars as Penny in the award-winning comedy show “The Big Bang Theory”, was in second position, with an earning of $24.5 million.
Kaling came up third with estimated earnings of $15 million, followed by a tie for fourth place between Ellen Pompeo and Mariska Hargitay, who both made $14.5 million.
Priyanka’s earnings of $11 million follow lucrative endorsement deals and follow her international acting debut last year with ABC’s “Quantico”, which is now gearing up for its second season.
Dividing her time between the US and India, the 34-year-old actress juggles her film commitments in Bollywood with her career in Los Angeles. She starred in two films last year, Bajirao Mastani and Jai Gangaajal and is set to make her Hollywood debut with Baywatch alongside Dwayne Johnson, the world’s highest-paid actor.
Like most actresses, her millions are not made from screen time alone, and Priyanka is one of India’s top picks for advertisers, Forbes magazine said.
Her foray in the US entertainment industry has so far been a success, with appearances on popular late night TV talk shows.
Priyanka was a presenter at this year’s Academy Awards and is set to present at the Emmys next week as well.
She is also one of the hosts for the 2016 Global Citizen Festival, which will be headlined by musicians Rihanna and Selena Gomez, among others, on September 24.
Castle star Stana Katric, who like Priyanka is a newcomer to the list, was placed in seventh position. Another newcomer is Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who stars in Veep.
Scandal actress Kerry Washington was ranked sixth, with $13.5 million earnings.
The list comprises 15 highest paid actresses.
