Medic who decapitated baby in a botched birth is now working in India

A doctor who accidentally decapitated a Dundee baby in a botched delivery is now working in India as a 'doctor to the stars.'

According to The Sun, Vaishnavy Laxman has been working as an obstetrics and gynaecology doctor at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai since 2016 and the hospital’s website has called her work “extraordinary.”

Laxman hit headlines earlier this year during a medical tribunal hearing where it was revealed she accidentally decapitated a baby boy in 2014.

Baby Steven was born at 25 weeks and was in breech position.

Laxman refused first-time mother Laura Gallazzi a C-section and told her to proceed with a natural birth at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. While Gallazzi pushed, Laxman applied traction to the baby’s legs, causing the head to become detached from the body.

Laxman was cleared by a medical tribunal and allowed to continue practising medicine.

Reacting to Laxman’s new post, Gallazzi said: “She’s been able to carry on as normal because she’s been cleared to practise. But my life will never be the same because of her mistake.”
