Jai Mummy Di movie review: A good concept gone wasted

Jai Mummy Di starring Sunny Singh, Sonnalli Seygall, Poonam Dhillon and Supriya Pathak is all set to hit the screens on 17th January 2020. The film is produced by Luv Ranjan (director of Pyaar Ka Punchnama franchise and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety) and Bhushan Kumar (T-Series).  It marks the directorial debut of Navjot Gulati and we can say that what a blunder he has made.

Jai Mummy Di is about Puneet (Sunny Singh) and Saanjh (Sonnalli Seygall) who are madly in love with each other. But their mothers, Laali (Supriya Pathak) and Pinky (Poonam Dhillon) hate each other and whenever they meet there’s a big fight that takes place. Laali and Pinky were childhood friends but one incident changed things between them. How Puneet and Saanjh convince their mothers for their marriage, forms the whole story…

The movie is written and directed by Navjot Gulati. The basic concept of the film is damn good and if the screenplay and the narration were better, this film had the potential to be a laugh riot. The title of the film is Jai Mummy Di, but mummies (Poonam Dhillon, Supriya Pathak) don’t have good screen time in the film. Their characters are very badly written. Also, most of the time, the characters in the film are eating; from samosas to sweets to butter chicken, it is all about food.

Talking about performances, Sonnalli Seygall has given a confident performance and she is good in her part. Poonam Dhillon and Supriya Pathak are wasted. Both of them are talented actresses, but the film doesn’t do justice to their talent. Now, let’s talk about Sunny Singh. He is actually the biggest disappointing factor in the film. He has carried the whole film with just a single expression.

The songs of the film are strictly average. The only song that impressed us is Mummy Nu Pasand.

Overall, Jai Mummy Di is a disappointing film. It is a perfect example of a good concept gone wasted.

Gambhir avoids comment on 2027 World Cup future of Kohli and Rohit

INDIA head coach Gautam Gambhir declined to discuss the 2027 World Cup prospects of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, saying it was too early to look that far ahead despite acknowledging their quality.

Both players now feature internationally only in the 50-over format, but India appear to be managing a gradual transition rather than making sudden changes.
