Boy, 7, found dead outside home after suspected hypothermia

A YOUNG boy is thought to have frozen to death outside his Birmingham home last weekend.

Hakeen Hussain, 7, was declared dead last Sunday (3) after paramedics were called to his home in the early hours of the morning.

The schoolboy, who is reported to suffer from asthma, is suspected to have succumbed to hypothermia due to the freezing temperatures.

Hussain is believed to have been staying with his mother and her uncle, Timothy Busk.

The two have since been taken into custody.

The boy's aunt Aroosa Kausar said: 'Hakeem had such a bright future. He was such a sweet boy and very playful. His death has torn our family apart.”

She added the boy’s father is “absolutely devastated”.

Hussain’s headteacher Julie Wright, of Nechells Primary Academy, wrote to parents to say the school would be working with Birmingham City Council to ensure staff and pupils had access to grief and bereavement counsellors:

‘We are saddened by the loss to our academy community and will make every effort to support you and your child as you need,’ she said.

A post mortem examination to determine the cause of death is expected to take place today.
