Nephew of Poundstretcher boss killed in fatal collision

The millionaire nephew of the boss of Poundstretcher has been killed when his Mercedes careered into a tree after he left a motorway.

Sabir Tayub died when his vehicle slammed into a tree on the M45 in Warwickshire last Friday (18).

The businessman, who was in his 40s, was the son of Rashid Tayub - who set up Crown Crest food distribution - which owns the national chain Poundstretcher.

Crown Crest is now run by Rashid’s brother, Aziz - who earlier this month was estimated to have a personal fortune of £250 million.

An inquest into Tayub’s death was opened on Friday in front of Warwickshire coroner Sean McGovern and adjourned so that Warwickshire Police could conduct further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The only information released about the collision so far is that it happened on the eastbound carriageway of the M45, near Rugby, about 1.30pm where Tayub’s grey Mercedes coupe left the road and hit a tree.

Police are trying to trace the driver of a white or silver BMW who was in the area at the time.

Officers investigating the incident on the M45 would like to hear from anyone who witnessed it or saw the car, and the manner in which it was being driven, before the collision occurred.

Anyone with information is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101 quoting incident 187 of November 15.
