Miller launches website to help stop Tory majority

LEGAL campaigner Gina Miller has launched a website that shows EU supporters who to vote for to have the best chance to prevent a Tory majority.

The tactical.vote website is developed by a "political tech collective" and it claims: "There's a lot that divides us. But to defeat the Tories, it's vital to vote for Labour where they can win, and Lib Dems where they can win."

Miller's website uses data from previous elections to choose the best candidates. Once voters enter their postcodes, they are advised who to vote for in their seat.

The Best for Britain campaign has also launched a tactical voting app to help anti-Brexit voters and the group predicts that the Tories would win a majority of 44 unless at least a third of Remain voters cast their ballots tactically.

Best for Britain Naomi Smith said: "99 per cent of polls this year have shown that the country is in favour of remaining in the European Union.

“However, through our first-past-the-post electoral system, we could still end up with a pro-Brexit majority in the House of Commons, elected on a minority of the vote share.

“We can’t change this system, but we can change how we vote, and we’ve found that four out of five voters are up for this.

"That’s why Best for Britain has commissioned the biggest tactical voting machine in the country and the results are clear. If we want to stop the disaster that is Brexit, we must vote tactically in the next general election.”

Best for Britain was founded by Miller and it has received significant funding from financier George Soros.

"This is going to be a Brexit election whether people want it or not," Vince Cable, an MP and former leader of the Liberal Democrat party, which wants to reverse Brexit, was quoted as saying by AFP.

Although tactical voting was "not ideal" Cable argued: "It's a powerful tool and one we've got to use."

Labour suspends Diane Abbott again over race comments

THE LABOUR PARTY has suspended Diane Abbott, the UK’s longest-serving female MP, after she repeated remarks on racism that had previously led to her suspension.

Abbott, a prominent figure in British left-wing politics and the first Black woman elected to parliament, was initially suspended by Labour in 2023 after she said the prejudice faced by Jewish people was similar to, but not the same as, racism.
