‘foolish’ war claims denied

WAR is not a solution to problems between India and Pakistan and only “foolish” people would consider such an option, Pakistan high com- missioner BS Basit said on Monday (30), two days after Pakistani nuclear scientist AQ Khan said his country had the capability to hit New Delhi in five minutes.

Basit (pictured) added Pakistan want- ed to resolve all issues with India and the countries must have a “result oriented” engagement.


“We hope that the dialogue process will resume, because all our issues can be resolved through talks,” he said.

Peace talks have been hit following a deadly attack on an Indian air force base that killed seven soldiers in January.

Basit said: “Five months have passed after the Pathankot attack, but the dialogue process between India and Pakistan has not resumed.

“We’re maintaining cooperation on Pathankot. Let’s hope we’ll be able to get to the bottom of that incident.”

Khan made the claim addressing a gathering in Islamabad on the 18th anniversary of Pakistan’s first nuclear test.

AT LEAST four prisoners mistakenly released from prisons in England and Wales remain at large.

They are among 262 prisoners wrongly released in the year to March, compared with 115 the previous year, the BBC reported.
