IN THE latest government reshuffle in November last year, MP Saqib Bhatti (full name Mohammad Saqib Bhatti) was promoted to parliamentary under-secretary of state in the Department of Science, Innovation, and Technology. This new role marks Bhatti’s first as a minister and will involve collaborating with the private sector on various subjects, including technology and artificial intelligence. “I am honoured to become a minister in the Department of Science, Innovation, and Technology.

As a nation, we are on the brink of huge innovation, and I am excited by the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead for us,” he expressed following his appointment. In February this year, he hosted his first Pensioners Fair for the residents of the Solihull Borough. The event brought together several companies, charities, and service providers offering specific initiatives for pensioners. During his time in parliament, he served as private parliamentary secretary (PPS) to Liz Truss, then secretary of state for the Department for International Trade in 2020.

He then served as PPS to the secretary of state, Sajid Javid MP, until July 2022. In September of that year, he was appointed the Tory party’s vice-chair for business. He was later elected to the foreign affairs committee. Bhatti entered Parliament in the 2019 General Election, inheriting the seat left vacant when Caroline Spelman resigned from the safe Tory seat of Meriden, near Coventry. He was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list in 2020 for services to diversity and inclusion in business communities. Before his political career, he was a chartered accountant. He was the youngest ever president of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and is the former president of the Asian Business Chambers of Commerce.
