The Authoring tools are the software programs that help articulate and create the e-learning courses using the text, audio, videos, interaction, and navigation to impart the knowledge to the trainees. An interesting bit to note is that in the year 2018, the top three players of the authoring tool market constituted 44.2% of the total market share.
An authoring tool has become somewhat of a necessity for supporting LMS software. Adobe Captivate Price seems to capitalize on that fact and at the same time deliver one of the trendiest products available which are effective too. The following trends seem to be doing better and better every day and look like they are here to stay awhile.
Micro-learning is a trend that has been around for a while and focuses on the creation of small snippets of information for the consumption of the learners. Small chunks of knowledge in the form of text, videos, audios, PDFs, PPTs, etc. are shared with the learners which they can consume on the go. This helps in better retention of the knowledge as well as the effectiveness of training.
The next trend that has secured a position in this discussion is that of mobile responsiveness. The shared training content need not only be mobile friendly but also mobile responsive. This means that it is one thing to be able to access the material on your mobile phone but another to be able to consume it as effectively over this medium. Maybe the content is available as a way of being mobile-friendly, but the font is too small to be able to read it or the video format is not compatible with the phone software. This should be avoided at all costs, as it makes users averse to learning owing to the lack of proper mobile responsiveness.
Next in the line of trends, is the big data analysis. With the new LMSs generating an obscene amount of data, big data has become an integral part of the decision-making process. The tracking of learners’ onscreen activities has paved the way for mine a goldmine of insights about the same. This trend is here to stay.
The Learning Management Systems and their Authoring Tools have been known to make continuous improvement for the sake of better learning repeatedly. Gather the relevant data, find out what works and what doesn’t, and work around that to provide the best service possible. But, only continuous improvement is not enough, the sustainable improvement is the key here.
Artificial Intelligence as a trend has been making waves in the industry for a long time now. It has allowed the trainers to create a course that is more effective and has helped enhance the learner experience drastically. AI has further helped in the direct learning of students who want assistance at their convenience.
The industry has seen the use of Artificial Reality followed by Virtual Reality to make learning more interactive. Mixed Reality has also been doing the rounds for a short while now, by amalgamating both these big shots( AR & VR) to achieve the required cohesion and effectiveness together.
Several LMSs have been seen to collaborate with the Authoring tools to create customized courses. This has resulted in a smart model that results in relevant and quality coursework that is effective.
The use of the authoring tools that allow the robust and native collaboration tools to support the online work environment has been on the rise.
The said trends have already been successful in the industry and made headway progress. It seems that the above-mentioned features are not going anywhere in the near future and will continue to rule 2021.
