Bollywood showman Subhash Ghai has announced his next production venture, titled 36 Farmhouse. The veteran filmmaker, who is known for directing a number of successful Hindi films such as Karz (1980), Hero (1983), Meri Jung (1985) Karma (1986), Ram Lakhan (1989), Saudagar (1991), Khalnayak (1993), and Taal (1999), will bankroll the upcoming film under his production house Mukta Searchlight Films.

Ghai has roped in well-known Gujarati filmmaker Vipul Mehta to helm the project. Mehta shot to overnight fame after the huge success of his 2019 comedy-drama Chaal Jeevi Laiye, which ran for 75 weeks in theatres and emerged as the highest-grossing film of Gujarati cinema ever.

Talking about 36 Farmhouse, Subhash Ghai said in a statement, “We have been working vigorously on developing stories and scripts for the last four years for Mukta Arts and now it is time to enter into film production of Hindi films which is and has been our core business.”

He went on to add that his production house has collaborated with ZEE Studios to produce 36 Farmhouse and two other films, which will be announced in 2021 itself. “We are also glad that Mukta Arts in association with ZEE Studios is going to take three entertaining films on the floor this year under the Mukta Searchlight Films which has produced high-concept low-budget films like Iqbal (2005), Joggers Park (2003), Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), etc in the past. I am sure we are gonna win this year with fantastic scripts before we crack big-budget Hindi films with big stars. Please wait and watch for the next announcement,” concluded the acclaimed filmmaker.

There is no update on the plotline of 36 Farmhouse at the moment. The makers will, however, announce the cast and credits of 36 Farmhouse shortly. Till then, keep visiting this space for more updates and reveals from the world of entertainment.

Hollywood’s 2024 shake-up: Women dominate box office, but diversity still lags

For the first time, more than half of the biggest box office hits in 2024 featured a female lead or co-lead, marking a significant shift in Hollywood’s casting trends. A report by the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative revealed that 54% of the top 100 films had a central female character, a dramatic increase from 30% in 2023 and just 20% in 2007, when the study first began.
Dr. Stacy L. Smith, founder of the initiative, highlighted the milestone, calling it a breakthrough in gender representation. “This isn’t a sudden financial realisation, but the result of years of advocacy, industry efforts, and diversity initiatives,” she stated.

Among the year’s biggest films leading this change were Wicked starring Cynthia Erivo, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga with Anya Taylor-Joy. The study also pointed out variations across film studios. Universal Pictures had female leads in nearly 67% of its top films, while Sony Pictures trailed with 38.5%.

While the specific categories they’ll present remain under wraps, tradition suggests last year’s Best Actor winner, Cillian Murphy, will hand out the Best Actress award, and Emma Stone will return the favour for Best Actor.

Rumours are swirling about a potential opening performance by Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, both nominated for their roles in the highly anticipated musical. While Grande remained coy about the possibility, fans are already buzzing with excitement.

The Oscars will air live on ABC and stream on Hulu, with a red-carpet pre-show kicking off at 6:30 p.m. ET. As the countdown begins, the Academy promises more surprises and announcements in the coming weeks.

NIFFA 2025 to open with ‘Superboys of Malegaon,’ biggest line-up yet

The National Indian Film Festival of Australia (NIFFA) is gearing up for its most ambitious edition yet, bringing over 40 Indian films to Australian audiences. In collaboration with Dendy, the festival will showcase three world premieres and 36 Australian premieres, featuring a diverse mix of films across multiple Indian languages, including some never seen before in Australian theatres.

Reema Kagti’s much-anticipated Superboys of Malegaon will open the festival on February 13, 2025, with a grand red-carpet gala in Sydney.
