Sadak 2, starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt, locks a release date!

Starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt in lead roles, Sadak hit screens twenty-seven years ago on December 20, 1991, and its sequel, Sadak 2, has locked August 31st as its tentative release date.

For Sadak 2, Sanjay returns as Ravi, the taxi driver who rescued Pooja from the clutches of brothel owner Maharani. Actress Pooja Bhatt, who has been maintaining a distance from films as far as acting is concerned, will return to reprise her character. They will be joined by a young couple who are yet to be cast.

Mahesh Bhatt, who helmed the original film, has been working on the story for three months. Talking about Sanjay and his character in the film, the veteran filmmaker says, “Innumerable discussions over a period of two-three weeks showed me how the once-vulnerable boy from Naam had matured into a deeper human being. Sanjay who was 32 when we made the original, comesback as a 54-year-old Ravi into the 21st-century world that is collapsing in front of his eyes, where the distinction between the house and the Sadak is fast disappearing. The story has the emotional connect of the films I made back in the 90s which brought a lump to the throats of the viewer. I could see that in the reaction of those present at the narration. They were visibly moved,” he smiles with satisfaction.

When asked if he will wield the megaphone again and direct Sadak, he says, “No, that chapter of my life is over, the page has turned. Pooja, Sanjay, Mukesh and I will decide on a director soon."

  • Believes creating stories gives him more satisfaction than films.

Chetan Bhagat says fame in Bollywood can take a serious toll on mental health. The bestselling author, whose novels like 3 Idiots and Kai Po Che! became major films, explained that many actors and directors struggle when their work doesn’t succeed. “There are actors who, when going to a restaurant, if they aren’t recognised, don’t enjoy the meal. They wonder, ‘No one came to click photos?’ Can you imagine what a sick life that is?” he said.

Bhagat added that the pressure of attention and constant public scrutiny can worsen insecurity. He recalled seeing stars fade over time, their mental health affected by the highs and lows of fame.
