It was a few days ago when Deepika Padukone confirmed that she is playing the role of Romi Dev in Kabir Khan’s ’83. The film is based on India’s victory at the World Cup in 1983 and Ranveer Singh will be seen playing the role of Kapil Dev in the movie.
The actor took to Twitter to officially announce Deepika’s casting in the film. He tweeted, “*drum roll* All smiles as All-star @deepikapadukone joins the #83squad !!! ???? @83thefilm @kabirkhankk ? ? ?”

In his second tweet, he wrote, “Who better to play My Wifey than My Wifey?! ?❤ @deepikapadukone plays Romi Dev in @83thefilm !!! ??? Genius casting courtesy @kabirkhankk ??? #83squad.”

He posted another picture and tweeted, “Good times in Glasgow! ??? #83squad @83thefilm ??? @deepikapadukone @kabirkhankk.”

Ranveer also posted a video in which Deepika is seen hitting him with a bat. He captioned the video as, “Story of my Life ? Real & Reel ! @deepikapadukone @83thefilm ???.”

Well, the most interesting part here is that though Ranveer and Deepika have starred together in three films earlier, in none of their films they played husband and wife officially. But now, in their first film together after their wedding, the two will be finally playing the role of husband and wife on the big screen.
While talking about starring in ’83, Deepika had earlier said, “I am so glad that Kabir came to me with it. This happened a couple of months ago when he was still casting the boys for the film. It’s just that I was busy with Chhapaak (her production debut, which wrapped up recently) and we were waiting for the right moment to make the announcement.”
The actress had also stated that she would have done the film even if it didn’t star Ranveer. She said, “When you are in the business of movies, you are playing a character. Of course, all of this is yet to play out, but at the end of the day, you are essaying a role, and at that point, you are not thinking whether your co-actor is your husband, brother or someone you know closely. All you try to do is, be honest in that moment. The personal equation doesn’t spill over into the workspace. I can’t think of anyone else who could do justice to the role (of Kapil Dev), but if there was someone else playing him in the film, and not Ranveer, I would still do my part. This isn’t coming from a personal equation, but from my passion and enthusiasm for the film.”
’83 is slated to hit the screens on 10th April 2020.
