Rajkummar Rao’s Newton fails to make it to the Oscars

As Newton was the most successful film in India, many expected it to be the official entry to Oscars. The film was highly praised by the critics and the audience. However, here is some bad news for actor Rajkummar’s fans. The film is out of the Oscars race as it failed to be nominated.

According to the official website of the Oscars, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences declared that 9 films have cleared for the next round of voting in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Newton which was helmed by Amit V. Masurkar starring Rajkummar Rao is based on  the backdrop of elections of the country. It is disappointing to see the film not being nominated in the Oscars.

The shortlisted films are A Fantastic Woman (Chile), In the Fade (Germany), On Body and Soula (Hungary), Foxtrot (Israel), The Insult (Lebanon), Loveless (Russia), Felicite (Senegal), The Wound (South Africa) and The Square (Sweden).

The announcement of the nominations of all categories of the 90th Academy Awards will be made on January 23. The Oscars ceremony will be hosted at the Dolby Theatre on March 4.

The past Oscar nominations had Indian films like Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India. These films are considered to be the only films to have cleared the Oscar nominations but they never won an Oscar.

On the work front, Rajkummar Rao is gearing up for his next release Fanne Khan which also features Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles.
