Few actresses in Bollywood have been vocal about their sexual abuse experiences. They have addressed the issue without taking names of the culprits. Actress Kalki Koechlin recently commented that Bollywood actresses don’t take a stand against the issue because “their careers are in lines.”
Actress Radhika Apte is one of the Bollywood actresses who too has never shied away to speak against the issue. When she was quizzed about her reaction towards Kalki Koechlin’s comment on sexual harassment in Bollywood, Radhika said to a leading Indian entertainment portal, “She is right that the reason why people don’t speak up is because they know their careers will get ruined and the dream that they had for so long. But we need to speak up otherwise it is not going to stop. We also just not need to speak, but also say NO and we need to support the people who speak up. It is a slow process but I hope people find the courage and it is our responsibility to help them find the courage.”
On being asked about whether she has been acquainted with somebody’s personal experience in the industry or she herself has faced sexual harassment in the industry, Radhika said, “I have never had a first-hand experience so bad. The little bit that I have gone through I have always spoken about it. I have spoken about it then and there also. I have never hidden anything. I would never disclose other people’s stories, unfortunately.”
On the work front, Radhika Apte will be seen with Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor in Padman which is slated to release on January 25, 2018.
