Directed by Amit V Masurkar, Newton is a black comedy that revolves around a government clerk who is entrusted the job of conducting elections in the jungles of Chhattisgarh where there is high probability of Naxalite attack. Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao who is playing the lead role said, “Shooting for Newton has been one of the most enlightening experiences in my career. I’m going to cherish it for life. I am proud and honoured to be a part of this film.” The movie has received good reviews at international festivals like Berlinale 2017, Edinburgh International Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival.
“We are excited to finally bring this film to the Indian audiences. As we celebrate 70 years of Independence, I hope people see this movie and celebrate Indian democracy,” said Manish Mundra, who is the producer of the film.
Aanand L Rai, also being one of the producers, said, “I was really impressed by the maturity and dexterity with which Amit has handled such a sensitive subject. The film uses comedy to bring out some of the deepest human emotions and thoughts that question our innate being. It talks about change and being a part of it in a thought-provoking yet entertaining manner. Wrapped in humour, this one will definitely leave the audience with a chuckle.”
Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil and Raghubir Yadav are also the cast of the film. In order to bring the realism, the film includes real tribals as well. Presented by Aanand L Rai and Drishyam Production in collaboration with Colour Yellow Productions, Newton is slated to release on September 22.
