Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been confirmed to play the role of Shiv Sena founder-president Bal Thackeray in the forthcoming biopic Thackeray.

Thursday evening saw the attendance of Amitabh Bachchan, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut at the film’s trailer launch event.

As Nawazuddin was shooting in Mauritius, he couldn’t attend the event, but he shared a video message in which he said, “It’s truly a great day for me. I am fortunate to have got an opportunity to enact the role of such a great personality which any actor in the world would love to do. I am sure Balasaheb will inspire and bless me in this venture.”

The poster of the biopic was uncovered by Uddhav Thackeray. The film will be directed by Abhijit Panse.

Beaming with confidence, the script writer of the film Sanjay Raut said to IANS, “I had spent much time with Balasaheb, and have been associated with him for nearly four decades. I have a deep knowledge of his life and there are many aspects which shall be brought forth in the film.”

Several Marathi actors had auditioned for the role, however, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was selected for the role after a thorough selection process. “He is one of the most talented actors of our times. He immerses his mind, soul and body into every role. I believe he is fit for this role,” Mr Raut said to a leading Indian news channel.

Aaditya Thackeray who is Bal Thackeray’s grandson shared his views on the trailer release. He said to a leading Indian news channel, “I had goosebumps when I saw the trailer. I cannot describe the relationship I had with him. He was a father figure not just to us, but millions across the state.”
