Moving in the rain: when you can’t avoid the relocation

By: Eastern Eye Staff

If you have power to plan a move, no wise man would ever pick the rainy time of the year for a house move. Sadly, there are some reasons that cannot be avoided and thus you have to move even if there is a downpour.

The top-rated nationwide moving companies in the network of Pricing Van Lines state that although moving in the rain is not a great choice, sometimes people have no other choice. However, the experts further add that a little preparation can allow for a safe and successful relocation even during the rain.

So how do you move in the rain? Here are a few tips from e experts

1-   Keep garbage bags handy:

The best way to ensure your belongings do not get wet during the move is to wrap them in a garbage bag. Plastic trash bags prevent items from getting wet. From clothes in the hanger to a moving box, you can put anything inside the garbage bag. To ensure more safety, you can pack your items in a garbage bag and then place it inside a moving box.

2-   Wrap those items:

As you are moving when it is raining, you need to ensure that your items have a waterproof coat over them. Plastic wrap is a great way to protect your belongings from the rain. Shrink wrapping can be used on anything and everything. From furniture to mattresses and more, everything can be shrink wrapped to keep them dry and clean.  You can even seal the moving boxes and then wrap each box with the shrink wrap.

3-   Park the truck closer:

To avoid the contact between the truck and your house, you must park the truck closer to the house. Also, move all your items in one room which is at the entry of the house, from where you can move all your items to the truck easily. This will not only save your items from getting wet but will also safeguard your house from getting all wet because of your walking through the house, searching for the boxes to load.

4-   Know what to move first:

The rain can offer you breaks to move your fragile items. In order to take the advantage of this break, you must start moving the non-fragile items first. It is advisable to move covered boxes, mattresses and other items to the truck and then come to fragile items or items that can sustain damage from the downpour.

5-   Discuss the options with the moving company:

If you have hired a moving company, which is very much advisable in case of a rainy day move, you must discuss your options with the moving company. The professionals would advise you the best mode of transportation, safe ways to protect your items and much more. A covered moving truck is the best in case of a rainy day move. The moving experts will further advise a few extra protective tips to ensure complete safety of your items.

6-   Assembly line function:

If you are loading the truck on your own, an assembly line process is the best for you. In order to utilize the benefit of the assembly line process, you will need your friends and failed members to help you. Select a few of them who will stay inside the house, some others who will stay in the truck and a few who will be treading places with them.

7-   Keep them dry:

If despite the packing precautions your belongings get wet during the loading process, make sure you wipe them dry as soon as they are in the truck. This will help you in avoiding all the extra moisture and keep the items dry. Use extra towels for wiping the boxes and removing the moisture.

8-   Be quick while unpacking:

If you have safely moved your items safely to the new place, congratulations. Now, to ensure further safety, be quick and unpack these boxes as soon as you can. The sooner you remove the items from the packing the better it will be as when out of the box, the items can dry off easily.

9-   Use mats as much as you can:

The rain can make the walkways slippery and hence using mats is a wise option. You must have mats spread across the walkways and ensure that you walk on them to have better friction below your feet.

Moving during the rainy season, if it is unavoidable, can be made easier with these tips. You must engage a credible moving company to ensure proper expert help. The professionals will ensure that the move is made safer and easier for you as you move when the downpour is heavy. Try to avoid the move in the rainy season, but if you can’t, you already know what you need to do.
