Ever since making her Hindi film debut with Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment’s action entertainer Heropanti (2014), Kriti Sanon has played a diverse range of characters. But in the upcoming Ashutosh Gowariker directorial Panipat, she is playing a historical character for the first time in her career.

Kriti is playing the role of Parvati Bai in the big-ticket movie. Ever since the makers dropped the trailer of the period drama a couple of weeks ago, some people have been constantly comparing her character to that of Priyanka Chopra’s character Kashi Bai from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Bajirao Mastani (2015).

During an interaction, Kriti said that since Kashi and Parvati both belong to the same era, so their looks will be similar but apart from that, their journeys were completely different. She added that it is a great comparison though.

“There is no pressure. I have loved Priyanka Chopra in Bajirao Mastani. She was fabulous. But I don’t think my character, Parvati Bai, is anywhere similar to her character (Kashi Bai). I don’t think her character went through the same journey as mine. The situation is different, upbringing is different and the whole story is different. If it is a comparison, it is a great comparison. But Parvati Bai for me is very different,” said the actress.

Panipat revolves around the third battle of Panipat that took place on 14 January 1761 at Panipat. It was fought between Maratha Empire and invading Afghan. While the Afghan army fought under the leadership of the King of Afghans, Ahmad Shah Abdali, the Maratha army was led by Sadashivrao Bhau. Sanjay Dutt is playing the character of Afghan leader Ahmad Shah Abdali in the film, while Arjun Kapoor will be seen in the role of Sadashivrao Bhau.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, Panipat is scheduled to enter theatres on 6th December, 2019.
